Imaginary Learning

One of the most unusual aspects of my educational experience came up again in math class today. Imaginary numbers. Go ahead, try to wrap your brain around that concept for a second. I tried this morning but I've come down with a severe brain cold, so it wasn't going so hot. Really it makes perfect sense though. See, these numbers don't actually exist, but we're going to learn them anyway. Impressive. But hey if math can pull that off, why not extend the concept to other areas? What about imaginary history? Let's teach people about all the events in the course of history that never happened. Like how Spain leveled the entire continental United States with a nuclear bomb in 1924. Or what about imaginary spelling? I bet 98% of the people on the internet could earn a PhD in that subject. Oh how the possibilities could go on...but it's okay. Actually I've always been a big fan of imagination. Without imagination who knows how much more primitive our lives would be today. I just never thought to look for it in the world of mathematics.

I too hate algebra......just don't tell Joelle, I don't think she'd deal with it well.

But what's the point of mixing numbers and letters together? There is no point to this. I'm 21 now, and I have yet to use a formula using numbers and letters in the real world. This does not make sense!

I know this is my third comment on this post (counting the imaginary ones), but I just have to beg to be included in the writing of the book of imaginary history. Then we could start an imaginary school to teach imaginary subjects. After all, we almost have our imaginary degrees.
